If you can't afford those, then it's the usual low quality mass produced plastic moulded effort from B&Q or similar.

They might be expensive, and 'last for ever', but do they actually serve any useful purpose?

I'm struggling to understand what help you now want.

People have expressed doubt about the usefulness of surge protection, and you've also been told that you can buy expensive, well made distribution units with a long expected life, or cheaper less well made ones with, by implication, not such a long expected life.

Once you remove surge protection from the equation, they all do exactly the same thing.
