We have on OSI 20RI hot water system and potterton boiler. Recently, there have been lots of "tapping noises" coming from, we thought, the attic, but when up there, nothing is heard. Last night, I turned on the cold tap and heard the noise, so turned it on and off a few times and the same result. The hot water cylinder is adjacent to this room and the tapping is heard mostly around the rooms surrounding it. We live in a bungalow.

Any hints as to what we can check out? Not too experienced in plumbing issues.

Cheers

Have you a cold water storage cistern up there?

If so check the float valve, could be the cause.

Is it just when you shut off the tap quickly? If so could just be water hammer, and a little shock absorber can be fitted on the pipework to rectify the problem.

It could be someone held prisoner in the basement next door, banging on the pipes to get attention

i wouldn't of thought you had any tanks in the loft as you have an unvented cylinder.
