Has anyone read the book called the ragged trousered philanthropists? A very old book that was at one time the building trades bible, written by Robert Tressel, it was banned at one time for being classed as communistic.
It tells of the hard times sufferered by building trades workers, low pay and harsh working conditions, makes you want to cry on reading it.

Have got to say that this is one of the best books I've read for a long time. Only part way through it, but it's witty and oh so true
