Warm greetings.
I am a new member.
Please can you tell me which are the best Thermostatic Radiator Valves
money can buy. I am having some new ones fitted to replace ones that are always sticking.
Could you also say which Bi-directional Thermostatic Radiator valves are
best quality.
Are there any disadvantages in fitting Bi-directional?

Henry.

The Drayton brand, about £25 I think but offers vary

AFAIK all modern TRVs are bi-directional now.

I have a gold-plated one in the bathroom to match the taps

Danfoss also make a good TRV, their ones with the plastic top are cheaper but the chromed one is abouthe same price as the Drayton.

Honeywell VT200's are also pretty.

None of them last very long though. I don't find TRV4's particularly good. The pin is in plastic and very thin, so sticks easily. Recently fitted some Mysons which were far more robust, with a completely brass valve.

Thanks Chris,
Which Myson was it? TRV11?
Are they ok for a single pipe system?
Approx' how much are they?

Henry.

Peglar Terrier every time. Splendid valves. Never had a problem and last very well too.

Would you replace the valves at both ends or leave well enough alone?
They are probably over 30 years old.

Henry.

change both, of course.

Use lockshields with drainoffs if they are on downward loops or you are short of drain points (especially next to external doors so you can poke a hose out)

Best give it a good clean while you're at it. If you take the old rads into the garden you can squirt them through with a hose. Use x400 for a week or two first to loosen old sediment.

When finished, and tested for leaks, add inhibitor to prevent future corrosion.

Certainly both ends. You can usually purchase TRV/lockshield packs.

I have now swapped to the new Siemens trade trv and locksheild packs. Very impressed with quality and style and are also cheaper than any other make ;)
