I just bought a terraced house and noticed a huge person size whole in the gable party wall. From reading around I understand that this should be bricked up to the rafters.

Do i need to agree a party wall award to do this? Is there any specific requirement about how close to the rafter is has to be, any specific fire stoppers that must be used etc?

Also, I am retilling the roof and will be using different tiles to the neighbour. Does anyone have an example of what to do here where the tiles join? They may be slightly higher or lower for instance or flat versus ridged.

Thanks

I reckon you could just brick up the hole and, if asked, say you are repairing the brickwork.

If you work quietly and neatly, the neighbour would not even know.

Use a bonding gutter at the junction to neighbours roof, you can build up the firewall when the roofs off...
