Timer won't go to 'on'

We've got a Halstead finest gold boiler with a separate danfoss 103e5 timer - got home tonight & hot water works but can't get heating - the timer switch won't switch to 'on' to summon heat- we have detached the timer from the back plate and still can't get it to turn 'on' even when not connected - does this suggest its definitely a timer & not boiler problem? Or is it potentially something more serious?
I can pick up a relplacement timer in the morning - is it likely to solve the problem? Unlikely to get a CH engineer for a couple of days!

do u have switch live at the boiler? if yes then boiler fault if no replace programmer
