My shower/bath mixer tap is playing up. I can move the collar up and down enough to see the flat bit where presumably I can unscrew it but none of my spanners or wrenches are thin enough to get into the grooves. What sort of wrench or grippers are going to do it?

Presumably this is the pop up diverter plunger?
Sometimes the knob unscrews, but it could be one of those occasions where a push bike spanner could come in to its own?

They do vary, I'm afraid.......some have no hexagon but can be knurled or just round. Well awkward!
