Hi. I have been having an ongoing problem with the radiator in the loft room. It is slightly below floor level (mounted on the wall by the starecase starting one step down) and the header tank has been moved to the apex of the room. Basically I do not think it has ever worked properly. We sometimes get a little heat (I think) but it never gets hot. It has been bled and is OK (as are all the other radiators).

I had a look at the central heating pump and it is on max. I have been in the house for over 20 years and i think the central heating was put in a long time before that (It is a Baxi Back boiler).

We also had the heating stop working for a few days. Only the bathroom radiator worked (it was next to hot water tank) but now it seems to be working OK.

I was wondering if replacing the pump is likely to help?

First I would be certain the valves on that radiator are fully open.

then try totally closing the valves (just one valve on each is required) on all the other radiators and check that this one then gets hot.

Then look into balancing the system to try and force some more of the heated water to take a path through it. It may be that all the other radiator lockshield valves are fully open and providing a much easier path, effectively starving your luke warm loft radiator.
