Hello, I have the above shower which has only been on the wall about 3 weeks, but sat in the box a lot longer. After installing it and wiring it up (6mm cable and 30a fuse, short drop to shower) it worked fine, but then 3 uses later it started to trip the electric. After checking all the connections everything was wired correctly and tight, so nothing loose. We figured it might be the fuse in the electric box downstairs and it only being 30, so increased to 32 in case the power it was drawing was fluctuating at times. But no the same next time, and it tripped again. Went through the same process, but this time used a 40 instead so it had ample power - but nothing, the power will not switch on. It's lifeless. I don't want to believe its dead - its brand new!

Anyone any ideas at a last attempt to save it? I'd take it back or do a warrenty effort but the receipt has gone awol :(

If it is dead, what could have killed it? Because everthing electrical wise seems fine and when it did work, it worked perfectly.

Hello.

Is the mcb or rcd tripping ??

I would seriously consider getting this looked at by a qualified electrician. The 9.5KW shower that you have is not ok to be fed with a 6mm cable :( .

Up-rating the fuse till it works is not the way forward as the 6mm has a current carrying capacity relating to the length of run and installation method.

Sorry if this isn't the best of news.
Dare I mention Part P ?

Hi thanks for your feedback :)

The 30A was what was already installed, never thought to change it prior!

It states on the shower box a 6mm cable should be sufficient (but in some cases 10mm may be required). Ours is a short distance, and having done the old calculations against what it was drawing, it should be fine on the 6mm cable. Altho it states 9.5, its actually 8.7 so it says.

Have checked over all the electrics inside the shower and all the terminals have a current passing through them so doesn't indicate an internal fault I woundn't have thought.

Apparently it didn't actually trip the electric on the 32A breaker, but simply stopped fucntioning. The 40A was put in just in case it was related to that.

It didn't work again when we tried it, as though it was dead. What baffles me though is there is nothing wrong with the wiring and the shower iteself has power going through it. Could it be the (shower) power on/off switch or did it possibly cut out because of water temperature?

Not had a new shower before so not sure what feature they come with.

Failing that, its the Triton warrenty effort :-/

Hi, Can you not ask the installer back to look at it?

Have checked over all the electrics inside the shower and all the terminals have a current passing through them so doesn't indicate an internal fault I woundn't have thought.

I think I might just be misunderstanding your terminology, but how did you do this check? (My clamp-meter wouldn't fit around terminals in a shower and my multimeter only does up to 20 Amps) Or do you mean voltage is present on all the terminals?

Don't take this the wrong way, as I think DIY should be encouraged where appropriate but stuff like electric showers, gas appliances etc. are perhaps better left to the experts :D Having said that, it sounds like your shower is knackered. :( Please make sure you know the cause of the fault was before you replace it though.
