Good luck..
I fitted the new tensioner, the metal tab pirce wouldn't go in the dowel/lug hole as that is for the type of tensioners with the dowel not the tab, but I fitted it in the rectangle hole it seems flush and the tensioner pulley is in the same position as originally.
however the belt still seems way way too big to go back on even thoguh its route right and the same belt

It was locked in but It was too difficult getting the locking put off it while on the car so I took out the locking pin before fitting it on

It is conventional, you know, for rectangular pegs to go into round holes in these situations. The casting of the engine block determines this.
Are you absolutely sure the peg wont go in? We seem to be back to square one just now.
John :)

I’d guess its possible to retension the thing if its held in a vice, and then wound up prior to popping the peg back in?
Done this before but can’t remember what make it was.
John :)

hi
I have put the peg in the rectangular hole ( not the round hole for the dowel/lugs) it now seems to fit flush with the engine and looks back in its original position.
problem now is the belt is way too slack altohguh it is the same belt, this sint because I fitted it without the locking pin is it ?

can be done on the car can't it and then take the tensioner off ?

are you saying that the belt is now slack because I removed the locking pin ? the belt seems inches too big is that because i fitted belt tensioner without lock pin
I thoguht locking pin was only t make it easier pulling belt over the pulleys, I found it easy enough fitting belt without it being locked in so didnt see the pin neccessary

I have a learning difficulty, dyspraxia and I am trying to feel good about myself, I feel bad if I am inconvenieicng you and if I am then ...............

It gives me a sense of accompishment and I have done many jobs on my car's and it is a good feeling, I don't like or appreicete or that I am being discriminated because of my disablity being made to feel a burden or nuisance and peiple who see me as such I would rather they didn't bother being involved.
I appreciete you but if you portray me as beng a burden I rather you didnt inconveninece yourself

thanks

The square peg MUST go in the round hole. MUST!

It goes in the rectangular hole and now it sitys flush and everything looks to how it was before

what is different if it goes in round hole as to the rectangle hole ? it is like it is sitting in thin air in both as it is not a tight fit the hole is bigger than the tab

It is fitted perfectly, lined up and looks how it origonaaly was. What difference to the tension would it make if it was in a rould hole or rectangle hole ? It looks right where it was originally and it is flush with the engine now but sthe belt seems massive.

Ok, the square peg fits into the round hole - that’s absolutely correct.
Its best to fit the tensioner with the locking pin in place. You then fit the belt then remove the locking pin by taking the spring resistance off the tensioner with your spanner.
The tensioner then bears on the belt and the job should be done.
John :)
