Using chimney/flue in Victorian terrace converted to flats

1. You have three fire place/openings, one of which you have opened up?

2. Your neighbours have ... ? ... fire openings and flues? Blocked or open? Perhaps with an appliance or solid fuel fire in place?

3. You dont know the condition of the c/stack and terminals.
Are all the flues in the property on the same party or gable wall?
Smoke testing, or sweeping, identifies terminal and flue ownership.

4. Unless your flue is found to be damaged, there is no need to line your flue for a solid fuel open fire, or an open gas appliance.
Wood burning stoves require a HETAS view of the site.

5. The flexi-metal in place liner must come out for sweeping, smoke test, and as in item 4 above.
A dual gas/solid fuel terminal, or insert terminal, must be installed on the stack.

6.Covering neighbour's flue openings during work is sensible.
Access to the neighbours for the smoke test is a must.

7. I would suggest getting a HETAS in for advice and a view, explain your situation and proposals, write down and sketch what the HETAS has to say, and then determine what appliance or fire configuration you want.

I know of chimney sweeps in other areas who are HETAS and Gas Safe - all-in-one.
