Is there any problem with running the drain hose of a washer into a special sink trap waste with a 'spur', by securing it with a jubilee clip?

yes, they are rubbish, the spiggot you refer to will collect lint and block up, causing your m/c problems, stand pipes are much better

Being fair though Breezer, they do work. I've had my m/c connected that way for 6 years and never had a problem. Stand pipes are better but if you are aware of the problems you might encounter with the "spigot" method you might as well use it if that's the easiest way.

Hi

The safe/clear-cut option is to connect the outlet drain pipe to the main drain pipe as a separate outlet and to set the outlet tube to drain pipe connection at the correct height as shown in the manuals - drain pipes can block and flood the premises when least expected! So . . . if you have the freedom/choice/option to connect separatetly then please do so.
:)

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice folks. As running into a spigot is far more convenient I will be doing that - but noting and watching for the possible problems.
