My washer and dryer have everything installed. Ive got a 24inch drain pipe that comes straight down to an elbow that goes 28 inches straight then elbows into the main pipe. The water as it drains, backs up. Do I need to add a vent and how to do that the easiest way? Or would just duct taping it be a better solve?

discharging into a 2" pipe that overflows means only one thing, the drain is blocked, check the pipe and connection to the drain and clear, you coud try disconnecting the water hose and putting it down the waste pipe as long as you can reach the valve to turn on/off if it overflows.
