Which comes first - retiling the kitchen walls and then fitting new worktops, or vice versa. It seems a shame to have new worktops and then do all that retiling work while having to protect them. Perhaps you have to tile down on to worktops though? Would appreciate help in decision.
Many thanks

I don't know which is the right or wrong way but I think it's better to put worktops in first.

Firstly you have a level surface (hopefully) to start from, you can also cover any gaps between tops and wall, which will help getting a neat silicon line which will look better and be more effective.

Any mess made on the tops will come off easily.

Worktop always first and if it's a corner worktop then it's easier chop it into wall when it's most likely to be out of square. If you do the tiles first you would have to scribe the worktop neatly for a perfect joint and the worktop will have a bigger overhang on the front because of tiles & adhesive thickness. I use off-cut plasterboard or hardboard to protect the worktop.
