Whistling Radiator Driving Me MAD!

Hello,
Have a radiator which persistantly whistles. I can only stop this by adjusting the temperature valve thing on the side (either way) which lasts a little while before it starts whistling again.
What can I do to stop it?!

Try shutting down the lockshield valve and then open anti clockwise, quarter turn.

I'm a girl and therefore must clarify couple of points... Heating off and cold before I do this? And do I shut it all the way off (anti-clockwise I guess) and open just a quarter turn and no more?
