Why does it take politicians so long?

Why does it take politicians so long to announce things that everyone else has known for years?

ie: Labour let too many immigrants into the Country - Really?

People taking out pay-day loans get themselves into financial difficulty- Wow?

Have they got their heads stuck so far up their own *rses that they really are not aware of every day life in Britain?

How strange though that Labour have suddenly realised that they 'made a mistake' regarding immigration. Why couldn't they have seen that when they were in power? Possibly something to do with the fact that they know they can never win another general election unless they come up with something that the majority have been saying for a long, long time.

They are so far up their own backsides, and detached from the people they were elected to serve, they are completely out of touch with the average person in the street. What other profession enjoys a good salary, a heavily subsidised 'works canteen' (and bars), where you are able to claim for a second home due to living away from home for 'work', anything you do need, from a TV licence, to a lightbulb, to getting your moat cleaned out on 'company' expenses.....

I think most are more concerned with getting themselves re-elected to be able to continue to enjoy the 'perks' of the job rather than actually concentrating on the job in hand.

Labour have only just admitted their 'mistake' as they may actually have started to grasp the strength of ill feeling amoungst the electorate about the issue, and think if they 'say sorry' it'll make everything alright. The rest are no better IMO, although UKIP may be starting to get an advantage as they're saying what people want to hear....

The trouble with politicians is that they think people are stupid.
But the reason that's a problem is because in general they are right.
You don't have to fool all of the people, just enough to win a majority.
And they will lie, betray their so called principles or do anything necessary to win that popularity contest.
That's where democracy is cr*p..no long term planning, just short term win at all costs aims.

Despite all the problems Labour caused last time, I'll bet they'll get in again next time.

Why? Because people are stupid. Either that or they have very short memories.

Labour will come bearing gifts for the poor and get elected - and the country will go further down the gurgle.

No effort will be made to stop immigration because business wants cheap labour.

The classic is the licencing laws. Scrap them and make alcohol available 24/7 then spend the next 5 years trying to stop binge drinking by increasing the tax.

Cirrhosis is the third most common death in the 20-50 male age group. Well done the lobby groups.

Who's going to pay for all the extra hospitals and prisons we'll need, to say nothing of all the additional handouts?

Silly question!

Politicians have a habit of surrounding themselves in a bubble, once they get up high, they start selecting the people around them, of course they select people with similar views.

This leads to conformation bias on any political ideas, and everyone trying to reassure each other that they did the right thing when they start getting criticism.

Take the lib dems for example (and don't make the mistake of picking on them). The leadership are pushing and whipping for a vote in favour of secret courts, which all the grass-roots and base are against.

Hopefully we can get a few seats and at least make a noise from time to time.
