Please can anyone help. Our Wilo Gold 50 pump appears to be overheating, it is very noisy and too hot to touch. It started a few months ago and is getting worse. A few nights ago it even set our upstairs landing smoke alarm off!
Even when the heating and the water are turned off, the pump still works just as hard, so we have resorted to turning the boiler switch off and I am now wary about turning it on at all.
Our house is a new build only 5 years old.

Please help. :(

It seems that there is a fault in your system or boiler to keep the pump on with no demand.

Wilo pumps are very reliable and if its still pumping Ok then very unusual indeed.

If its noisy thought thats usualy dirt which has damaged the bearings.

Remove head and check for dirt in eye or sideways play in shaft.

Its normal to have about 3 mm end float.

Sounds like you have a sticky zone valve keeping the pump on....of a blockage in the system causing things not to circulate.
