zanussi FJS 1397w Program dial turning on its own

This washing machine has a mind of its own, set it to any program and after an initial few minutes the program dial starts turning clockwise every few seconds until it reaches the end position.It seems to try to go through each stage of any particular cycle in about 3 or 4 seconds, now thats what I call a quick wash!!!. Is it terminal (5 years old and just out of warranty) or easy to fix? Any help gratefully received.

Sounds like a faulty timer. I use a firm called Re'Lectronics, Tel. 01604 639792 who supply exchange recon. timers. They will want any numbers marked on your timer and you should tell them the symptoms, as on certain models this behaviour can be induced by a fault in the circuit board.
