Windscreen washer jets strong at first then weaken

Hi,

I've got a problem with my Ford Focus - The washer jets are very weak and barely reach the bottom of the windscreen. However, when the jets first come on it seems to be skooshing water at full strength for the first split second then goes down to a piddly stream. The button I press to control the water jets, if I just tap it rather than hold it down the jets seems to spray water at full strength but its only for a fraction of a second. When the button is pressed and held the jets weaken significantly.

Any idea what I can do to resolve this?

dirt clogging the strainer or pump? Take the water bottle out and give it a good clean.

Disconnect the pipework to the jets, and press the switch....water should gush out wholesale. If it does, blow a blast of air through the jets, from the bonnet side.
if no water gushes, it could be the pump blocked in the bottle (using Fairy Liquid does this).
A reasonable test is to try the pump on the rear screen - its the same pump, running in reverse.
