I have an IBM computer which is about 5 years old which i have used at work and have now replaced.
Would it be viable to replace the hard drive so that i could then use this at home for my family to use and how easy is this to do considering i would have to then install a new windows system.
This could be a piece of string question but what sort of cost could i be looking at?

As its over 5 years old it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one.

What kind of IBM computer? Laptop, PS/2, iSeries, pSeries, zSeries (last three more than a little unlikely)

If it's a PS/2 remember that they use the IBM specific, MCA bus architecture.

New hard drive - about the price of a meal for 2.

see maplin or ebuyer.

If you get a new hard drive, you can buy an OEM of windows for about half the price of a retail version - it comes unboxed for "developers and system builders". Perfectly legit though.
