i have recently moved into a house that has been empty for 6/8 months. when i blead the rads only a small amount of air came out, but the water was black ! i continued for ages but it was still the same. shouldnt it run clear after a while ? any help greatfull.

No. The water is black because it contains inhibitor to stop the rusting. The fact that only a small amount of air came out also means that the CH system is in pretty good nick after so long.

The water is black because it didn't contain ENOUGH inhibitor to stop the rusting!
Inhibitor imparts a yellowish hue. Rust is black.
I would not use Purimachos inhibitor as indicated above. It isn't recommended by any boiler manufacturer as suitable for corrosion protection.
