Don't lay them straight onto the boards either softwood or chipboard.

Overlay with 12mm Aquapanel or 15mm Ply screwed art 200 centers

If this gives too high a floor height then take up all the existing boards and replace with 25mm WPB ply and additional noggins under any joints, this is what I usually do.

Use a flexible white powdered adhesive such as BAL rapidset and a flexible grout like BAL Superflex wide joint grout.

Jason.

Many flexible adhesives can be used over boards when screwed down according to the instructions (especially in a small area like a bathroom). There is no difference from the point of view of the tile between a board or ply.

It wouldn't be on the back of the pack if you couldn't do it. I dare say they have tested it first eh?

If it says on the back of the pack that you can - then rest assured that you can.

Tell me the difference between ply that is well screwed down and boards that are well screwed down.

Not when screwed down as directed on the pack. Just follow the instructions.

The REAL problem is if the joists are springy - nothing to do with the boards at all.

Have you ever done any tiling? Guess not eh?
