Hi
I am posting on my hubbys behalf(he'll go mad if he knows  )because he is about to take a job on that I don't want him to do !
He went to college a few years ago to learn Plastering, and to be honest he is pretty good, and gets a lot of repeat custom/referrals and is working most of the time.
He did a big plastering job for a guy a while back, and this guy asked him to do some pebbledashing(5 terrace backs)and my hubby said he would do it.
The problem is he did some in college and hasnt done any since, and Im bricking it as I am really worried that he'll mess it up !
He is due to start the job next week and is really angry that I am dissing him,and he says I should trust him to do a good job and if it takes him weeks to get it bang on ,then so be it !He says whatever he wouldnt leave it a mess for the customer.
I just wanted your views really as I feel disloyal to him,but would rather he tell this guy that he wont be able to do it rather than hash it.
There will only be him and a labourer doing the job,as his other labourer has just gone on holiday at short notice !
I would appreciate your views and advice(please be gentle with me,somtimes posts on here can be quite 'acidic' lol !)
Any help from the seasoned pros would be really appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
Caz

Tell him to forget it .Rendering is hard at the best of times ,if hes a novice he will make a big mess.

Hi, how did the job go. Did he do a good job or leave it well alone.

I have a close friend who have been doing pebbledashing for the last 28 yrs and trust me it's very difficult to master, you have to get the correct mortar wetness, thickness and knowing when to dash the render, it's all about timing and the stones have to be hosed down & washed plus again the stones mustn't be too dry then the stones have to flip upward in the correct angle!

I have done loads of plastering but I still can't quite master pebbledash.

I think the best thing for you to do is to let your husband have a go at it because he might surprise you with his work. Like all thing in life, you don't know until you try.

If it goes belly up and you're in the South East area, I can recommend my friend to you, he is very good and very reasonable price

Doh! I just seen the poster date

Thats all well and good but what if it was your house he made a mess of.

there are so-called 'plasterers' and there are external render specialists.

the two are very different.

you could practically teach a chimp to skim boards, but decorative external coatings and textured applications are worlds apart.

unless your fella is supremely confident he IS going to struggle.

i joined a spread gang for a pair of dashed semis and believe me, without everyone pulling together, with our combined skills, the job would not have been pulled off.

Doh :!:  I thought he was doing his house, the best way then is to see some of his sample work
