Hello All,
Last week,
@83mph on an 'A' road, dual carriageway, camera flashed twice !! :(

Its my second week with the company and I was in a company van.

Had I better mention it to them, or leave it and see what happens do you think ????

Any idea's on the fine too please ???

Thanks in advance.

if you get done its around £60 fine and 3 points.

yes do tell the company, and dont speed

It is £60 and three points, and your company will get the fine notice which they will pass on to you. They should have it within three days of the event.

False. It is at the discretion of the local police force. They might make you a conditional offer; it might be £60 and 3 points; they might take you to court.

False.

its not false about the 60 sovs and 3 points, its true.

what i didnt say was that its if you get done and how they feel that day, say 30 other people got done doing 40 over the speed limit, chances are they wont bother with the one 10mph over limit

usualy its court if its double or over the speed limit, (motorways its over a ton) but 60 in a 30 is usually court case since its twice the speed limit

It may be commonplace for a conditional offer to be made, for £60 and 3 points, but it isn't true to predict, unequivocally, that this will be the penalty in this case. Also, if it goes to court then costs will be added.

I don't know how you're measuring the likelihood of that, and I don't see the point of promoting a hope that might later be dashed, unless it's just to increase your post count.

Perhaps the OP will be interested in what you say most forces usually do.

No need to tell the company, the notice may not come through. Its not your duty to notice the flash only the speed limit.( If you were on a m/way & caught by a gantery camera you wouldnt know, so why do you need to tell them now).
But of course if it comes through dont argue about it.

Likely*** to be 60 sheets and three points.

They have upto 14 days to get the NIP (Notice of intended prosecution) to the owner.

When you say dual carriage way, i assume a 70mph limit? Depending on the van you are driving also, will depend how far over you are. Of course, the speed limit for a large van (over 2 tons) is only 60 on a dual carriageway, taking you 23mph over the limit.

*** Speaks a voice of experience. SP30 x 3

A lot of blokes at my place got caught out when we switched from Escort vans to Transit Connects, they all got caught doing 60 mph down country lanes on a national speed limit (60 mph for cars/car derived vans/personal light goods-50 for light goods vehicles!!

Pray that it was the old fashion style and that it had run out of film.
If its the digital type then the record goes straight to computer and the fine issued automatically. computers don't have mood swings
(25yrs in the IT industry and I'd really like to believe that statement but I've met a few possesed CPUs in my time....)

Hello,

Thanks for all the views, I was in an 'astramax' small van, ( car derived then !) :( . I did tell my 'foreman' today, as I didn't see the point(s) in not mentioning it.

(At this rate I'll only last a month in the job !!!! )

Thanks again All,

Ed.

as former driving instructor on hgv, i would say its discretion of police to take to court on the speed at time of offence.

fixed camera always a postal thing ticket goes to company within 6 mths as not all cameras are not attended daily or weekly or even mthly.

back of a vosa van, then expect a super fast delivery. trust me on that hgv test centres are vosa centres too.
they uplaod all digital information from onboard equipment daily which communicates with the others giving a full check on the vehicle insurance tax ect automatically with no exceptions to it as its computerised.

what happens is

company recieved panalty notice, they inform the police of the drivers details and company insurances ect. they then have option:
1 they can hand it direct to the driver
2 send it back with drivers details for police to send to driver

most companies hand it direct to driver within reasonable time for the payment to be made. some will make you sign for it others wont.

bad news is if you get more points you might lose your job, to many act on insurance cost six points is ussually the limit for most company's.

lesson to be learnt
rag your A55 of and you get more drops, more drops means more speed more speed means more tickets and then loss of employment.....they dont give a fiddlers f&rt about your licence they just employ another person to take your place.

so not have you just lost half a days pay and bounced your own premiums up by another half a days pay for the next four five years you earned your company extra money for the privalage of it, why because you got that last extra drop done....well done mate your a star heres a pat on the back from the company.

harsh but hits home doesnt it, been there done it 10 yrs on the road mate seen everthing done everything, i garantee you one thing though you and your wife aint as impressed about that last extra job as your boss's was.

take care hope it works out for you
terry

ps speed limit on duel carriage way for astramax 70 mph.

derived van( say a ford transit 1 tonner uprated to 3.5 tons on axles ect) 60 mph

Just to add to Doyle's post.
The firm I work for uses company cars leased and maintained by a third party company.
If this is the case with your firm, don't be surprised if the 3rd party company adds an administration charge (£30 in my case) to forward the PCN on.
