I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark, and go with scaled heat exchanger slowing down the water causing over heating.
The screaming noise may be either the pump or the fan, the only moving components within the appliance. More likely to be the pump as the fan would be running at full speed while you are trying to get some hot water.
