Tory claims that hung parliament would cause meltdown are dismissed.

Fears of an economic meltdown in the case of a hung parliament have been dismissed by a leading credit rating agency and senior economists.

Analysis by The Independent suggests that of the 16 countries worldwide who currently have the top triple-A financial stability rating, 10 are run by coalition governments. The majority of nations that have taken the toughest action in recent decades to tackle their debts were also governed at the time by coalitions.

They are going to get such a hammering in the next debate with both Brown and Clegg ganging up on them.

Rather pessimistic joe. Who's to say it won't all be lovey-dovey and consensual, bit like we are on here

It's official. Voting Labour can give you AIDS. I read it in the paper the other day.... Daily Mail I think it was....

Think it is pretty simple, screw what is going on in other countries..that is not relevent to this one.

A hung parliment means that the MPs decide amongst themselves what they do. You may see labour abolishing Trident for example to secure Lib Dem votes on NI increases etc... In other words, the country will be pulled apart in every direction.

A labour government as bad as it is, would be preferrable to no government...so if you haven't got enough sense to vote Tory...vote labour.

Abolish voting along party lines and have a free vote whereby MPs are answerable to their electorate. Power to the people. Vote for a balanced parliament.

...but they got voted into power by people BECAUSE they are standing as a member of a party.

I vote conservative because I believe in law and order and that the money I make should benefit me more than the 'Can't be bothered to work' people.

People vote labour because they think that no-one should be well off and it is better that everyone is beige so no-one dreams or gets above their station as a citizen.

People vote Lib Dem because ...er...they want that unicorn they were promised?

Anyway, the point is that if these people that we have voted for because we agree with their manifesto then go off and start voting how THEY please, it isn't really a democracy IS it.

...And how would this work??? If you have tens of thousands of people that want you to vote one way and then thousands the other?

I know...why don't we get them all to write a manifesto with their policies in it...and then the person who gets the most votes, goes by that!!....oh wait, we already have that..

Have working parties from each party on things like the economy, defence etc. Bring in experts such as economist, generals etc. Look at all the facts then take a vote on the best course of action. this left/right black/white politics is silly. Let's get the CORRECT policy - not one that suits the Unions or the Tory rich boys.

So you are saying let the experts rule instead...this I think you will find is a meritocracy...NOT a democracy.

Don't the experts know more about their subject than an MP that prolly hasn't a clue on the subject?

Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs.

The seven dwarfs always left to go work in the mine
early each morning.
As always, Snow White stayed home doing her
domestic chores.

As lunchtime approached, she would prepare their
lunch and carry it to the mine.

One day as she arrived at the mine with the lunch, she saw
that there had been a terrible
cave-in. Tearfully, and fearing the worst, Snow White
began calling out, hoping against hope that the dwarfs had
somehow survived.
'Hello...Hello!' she shouted. 'Can anyone hear me?
Hello!'

For a long while, there was no answer. Losing
hope, Snow White again shouted, 'Hello! Is
anyone down there?'

Just as she was about to give up all hope, she
heard a faint voice from deep within the mine,
singing;

'Vote for Gordon Brown, vote for Gordon Brown

Snow White fell to her knees and prayed,

'Oh, thank you, God! At least Dopey is still alive.

Yes, probably. But that is not what I am arguing. If, like you suggested, only the experts were in charge on any given issue...the general public would have no say...therefore, it wouldn't be democratic.

That isn't an insult to your idea, being 'democratic' doesn't mean 'good'.
