The transponder chip is in the key, and the receiver aerial is a coil of wire around the ignition switch. If you were thinking that you could remove this to disable your immobiliser system, you would be wrong ! The immobiliser can be electronically disabled by using complex diagnostic equipment, or by a major rewire of the vehicle's wiring sytems. Either way, it's not a cheap or easy fix !!

Why would you want to do that, unless stealing the car?

Can give info, if a reason is given..

dont want to steal this car although it would be nice if someone would . ecu has failed ,vauxhall wanted best part of a grand ,bought a kit from an ecu company ,they have provided a ecu ,transponder and aerial ,the aerial fits around the ignition switch which i need to remove to fit it ,thats why i need to know. any help would be appreciated. bill.

Rather than post how to steal a car, your best bet would be to go to a scrapyard, and say I need an ignition barrel, give me the key, as you will need that, then smash the ignition system apart, remove barrel, and take notes as you go along.

But even with a mismatched coil to alarm ecu, the key needs recoding?

Best bet is to have the origional ecu repaired, £1000 quid at dealer? ouch, there are plenty of aftermarket ECU repairers, that would do it for a fraction of the price. What's wrong with the ecu? How did it fail? I used to recode Sierra and Escort ECU's back in the day, and I don't think that I can recall a failed one ever. An engine swap however, to a different spec, requires a new ECU, and the immobiliser is the hardest thing to sort.

You don't need to remove the aerial ring from around the ignition barrel. You need to change your e.c.u, and put the matching transponder chip in the ignition key. No need to change the ignition barrel, only the chip in the key.

So why would the company supply the ECU, the transponder, and a free aerial coil pickup, that you say isn't required? And the OP is asking how to fit it? They could have sent a new ice cream maker, instead of the aerial loop, if you say it's not required. Do people actually read threads, or just post random words? The OP has obviously tried it with the existing coil, and it doesn't work, hence asking for help, as it needs all parts to be fitted, otherwise the supplier wouldn't supply them!

The company have supplied a complete kit. If you bought a television, would you need to get on the roof and change the aerial ??

Do you get an aerial when you buy a TV? No, what a daft post. The OP's supplier DID supply the coil. You say it's not required. So why supply it then?

When I bought a Sky digibox, an aerial was supplied, couldn't get the box to work without it.

You're missing the point. When you buy a kit of ANYTHING, there are parts supplied that you don't necessarily need as you might have these already. I recently had the pump changed on my central heating. The guy removed the new pump from the housing it came with, as I already have a housing plumbed into my system. He just put the new pump onto this housing. Therefore I did not need the new housing. If you look at Vauxhall ignition barrels from about "N" reg onwards (1995/6). you will see that they're marked "I", "II", "III". Just before the first "I", there is a white dot. This indicates that the vehicle is fitted with a transponder sysytem, and therefore it already has an aerial around the ignition barrel, so it does not need the aerial that was supplied in the kit. Hope this clears it up now.

OK - So back to the origional issue, the new ECU and transponder have been fitted, but the aerial hasn't been fitted. And it doesn't work. What next for the OP? Maybe try to fit the aerial that is matched to the ECU, or disregard it? Is it not possible that different ECU's were fitted into same model cars, and that some pickups are not the same as others?

mebad for thinking that.

He hasn't fitted the E.C.U and transponder yet. Let's wait and see what happens when he does.
