Didn't want to hijack another thread, so thought I'd start my own :D .

21 pounds for a wiper stalk  . It's just a plastic lever with some writing printed on it.

You can buy electronic gadgets for less.

The electric pump in my washer bottle went on me last year.

Local motor factors wanted £14 for a new one, dealer wanted almost £50......exact same pump, same model etc

Rip Off!!!!

Had to buy a diesel stop valve for my Peugeot a few years ago. Cost around £65 from a Peugeot dealership. Exactly the same part from a local motor spares was only £20.
Same manufacturer of the part that the dealership wanted to supply too.

Breakers yards a must, and as a bonus you can often find money etc in glove compartments or under seats :D

£17 for a sidelight bulb on a Porsche 911 from Porsche main dealer 2 years ago. £1 from Carspares

I thought about a breakers yard, but I think the wiper stalks must be easy to break, the wife broke ours, she not that strong!

A used one may already be weakened.

reading auto express a few years back, and iirc they were talking about car spares and mentioned that a porsche 911?? had the same wing mirrors as a itreon visa, porsche price in primer was about 300 quid, citreon price about 65 quid.

i drive a ford galaxy tdi,a brake light switch at fords is about £24.
the same thing at vw was £8.44.

always best to see whether your car has shared parts across the range because getting parts from 1 dealer could cost you a fortune.

I bought a hub for a Vauxhall as the bearings needed doing on that wheel and it was a sealed unit including ABS and speedo sensors.

Vauxhall price, £200 + £200 fitting
Motorfactor price, £65 + an hour's DIY.

Gregers, I'll have to remember that mirror thing if I ever need any bits... apparently the wing mirrors on my TF are the same as those on a late-90s Rover 200 or a Rover 100!

depending on your motor you could try GSF or ECP. a lot of the stuff they sell is by the same manufacturers as the car manufacturers use, lemforder etc etc.

just be sure to check the manufacturer of the replacement part with the original as both GSF and ECP sell some awful ****e alongside OEM quality stuff.

Seconded on GSF.
I've used them for parts on my BX and both Seat & VW.

Although the main stealers aren't too bad on prices sometimes.
I cracked the sump open on my Seat and GSF wanted £59 for a replacement. First one was cracked, second one the bolt holes for the oil level sensor were 1mm too shallow (couple of flat washers sorted that).
Genuine VAG part was only £65 from the Seat dealers.

How do you break a wiper stalk? Nobody ever scrapped their car because of this, for pennies at a breakers yard, many even remove the part for you.

My car failed it's MOT due to emissions, and the o2 sensor or CAT convertor was diagnosed as faulty. A new dealer CAT cost £800...he didn't even ask if I was sat down before he told me the price!

Bought from ebay for £80. Brand new, unused, in OE box.

Someone in my area thought - Do you know, my windscreen wiper is broken, you know what? I'll steal someones rear wiper to replace it. Which they did, to my car. So someone is driving about with a 10" rear wiper, as their main wiper? I guess they couldn't afford the 2.99 for one wiper, of the correct size, as they come in pairs, as is the norm, but need to steal a single wiper, of a smaller size.
