This is the situation,
On the top floor of my house i have 2 beds both on-suite, on the same floor the hot water cylinder, on the roof of the house the water tank, a few years ago (so I've been told) the on-suites were refitted both with shower pumps one works lovely the other does not, if you run just cold it seems ok, if you run hot only it runs for a few minutes then the pump starts making noises like it's running dry and the water stops and starts mostly stops though, I have been told it worked for a while and maybe the last 6-12 months this problem has occurred, problem is also pump is fitted in the wall behind vanity unit so loads of work to even get to it, any ideas please ?

Hi
Shower pumps have filters which need cleaning from time to time. Not a good idea to wall up shower pumps. I reckon you are going to have to gain access to them. You might find the repair is actually quite simple but no guarantees.

Are they positive or negative head pumps, how much distance between cold water tank and hot water cylinder

Not sure if this helps but when i turn pump off at electric switch which i can just reach and hold the head near the shower tray i can get gravity flow on hot and cold, no stopping and starting, very low pressure though, If i then lift the shower head the flow slows then stops the higher i get, after looking at pictures of shower pumps i'd say they are both positive head, distance between hot tank and cold tank is approx 2 mtrs, top of hot to bottom of cold

Are the other hot taps in the en-suite run from the pump?

As it sounds to me it might be an air lock, turn the power off (to the pump) and take the shower head off the faulty shower and lay the shower hose in the shower tray, then turn on the hot water, leave it on for 5mins. It should run without stopping. If it does stop and the other taps are working, then there is a air lock. The easy way to clear it would be with a wet vacuum.

Hi thanks for reply, only shower is run through pump, i have taken off head and run with pump switched off with hose lying on shower tray and all was good no pressure though, but a steady water flow, as soon as pump switched on problems again, so you think an air lock would cause this issue ?
