Think this is the best section?

Anyway, looking to get the chimney lined with a 6" stainless liner. We dont really use the fire that much, but as I have scaffolding up there for re-pointing the chimney it makes sense to get it done.

I see there a different grades of stainless 316/316, 904/316 or 904/904.

Is it best to go for the best? I have found a 904/316 with a 20 year guarantee for £18 per meter. other wise 316/316 for £15.50 per m.

We only burn wood and sometimes coal, but only for very cold times or Christmas for effect.

See pic below. of our stove with false chimney hood removed.

Forgot to say it is multi fuel wood burner, fitted about 30 years ago. The top of the stove is hidden behind a false removable

The pipe going back into the wall is 7", which I then assume joins the main chimney. It is regularly swept.

Would I just bring down the stainless liner, and then remove the 45 deg bend section and connect the stainless liner to the top of the stove via a 6 -7" enlarger unit?

Last time I priced s/s liner for solid fuel, the cheapest available was approx £17.00 per meter and only has 3 or 5 years guarantee.
Top quality liner was in excess of £100 per meter.

Liner for solid fuel is different to gas liner.

That sounds far too cheap. You should only use approved liners, a list of which can be found here http://guide.hetas.co.uk/guide_chimneys.html. You should use 904/904 as that's suitable for all solid fuels, 316 is only really suitable for wood and generally has a shorter warranty.

You should never ever reduce in size, if your pipe coming off your stove is 7" you must use at least a 7" liner. This http://www.directflues.co.uk/index....category_id=16&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=7 is approved stuff of the correct size

I don't know where you guys are all getting these expensive prices from, as every where I look they are all about the same price and 10+ years!!!

150mm (6”) is the minium required for soild fule stove burning as is also recommended by my stove manufactures.
As for the liner been “cheap” it it HETAS and CE approved, BSEN-1856 (BSRIA Testing House), double wall construction to 1.2mm thickness.

Surely you dont need the 904 on the outside as that does not come in contact with the flue gasses?

Remember this is for occasional use on mainly wood, not gas or smokeless fuel.

Oh other thing I forgot to say was I have to HETAS engineers down to price the job, they both came in at about £1500, (so quite good they are both the same)

They both listed on their quote 316/316 6" pipe!

So what is your question?

Reading what you have said and the questions you have asked makes me think that you wasted their time to give advice and a quote when you intend to do the work yourself.

NO!

I got the quotes and then thought about doing it myself.

So what is your question?

313/313 or 316/904?

Also questioned about the fitting into top of the stove!

See my first post!
You have had two professionals out that both quoted you 316. How many opinions do you want??

316 is the cheapest, so they maximise their profit. They are not going to fit 904/904 for the same price as 313/316

I am asking if there are benfits for going for the 316/904

Why are you asking people if you ignore the advice of two professionals? You have wasted their time and money, and now you are wasting our time.
You sound exactly like the type who will bother as many people as he can under the pretense of letting them earn their crust, and whilst not having the slightest intention of actually doing so.

So the stove has been fitted for 30 yrs with no problems.
WTF are you lining it ?
