thats the thing - i don't want to clog up the garage more by buying this :)
i'd rather pay £5 and borrow from somewhere!

:)
can i get hold of a standalone plunger of some sort?
hot water?
.
ok... foxhole... ur saying i need to do a LOT more hot watering??

i'll do both these things - for the plunger... i think i need a standalone one - surely i will have no need for a rod kit??
Standalone plunger ..........it`s called a floormop  Made by ADDIS and found @ any DIY store ;) We have 2 on the go - one for mopping the floor and when it gets tatty it`s relegated to outside gulley cleaning ;) Andy is just too tecchy with his 2kPSi jetters etc . :D

thanks

Yes - that`s a gulley you have shown a picture of - just a large version of the trap under your sink  the mop will act as a plunger in the gulley - jab it vigorously up and down while someone pours a bucket of water in the gulley . You won`t wear it out ;)

thanks nige
i'll give that a go tmrw
i'll reply to this thread if i have success - or if i just end up all smelly because i've splashed everywhere

OM2, how did you get on with the blockage ?
Ya hav`nt got back like ya said ya would either way.
I`m expecting my main drain to block anytime so I
Can give this B @ Q attachment for my Bosch
Pressure washer a try out.Hopefully won`t need it
Fingers crossed.

i haven't unblocked yet!
it's still as it is!
i will have a go tomorrow
i need to go an buy a mop first!

plan of attack:

- hot water
- attack with a mop head

i'll post a few pics to show the aftermath

If our drain had been blocked that long, my missus would be using my head down it, never mind waiting to buy a mop.

guys... i thought i'd give an update

finally... after all this time... i gave it a go at trying to fix

the day before yesterday i got a mop and a sink plunger (i thought it might have some use)

i started with the mop
what a daft idea i thought!!
what is this actually going to do????
i stuck the plunger down as it seemed it might be of more use
no joy

then i noticed the another drain 2m away
i looked ta the and saw the plastic grill (i think that's what it's called)
aaah! now i get it - now i understand how the mop will work!!

but then i had a lighting strike idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeee ha!
why not just buy a pipe extension and put the pipe down the other drain
problem solved
i am sooo sooooo clever!!!!!!!!

well given that i had everything ready, i thought i'd try unlocking anyway
so i took water from the first drain and put it into the second
i poured hot water down the drain and shoved the mop down there
in total, we must have used 10+ jugs of hot water

got really dirt and stinky :(

no joy :(

but then, i noticed that the second drain water had now risen and had stayed there
****!

my next brainwave told me that the 2 drains where connected to the same under sewage piping
damn!

still not ready to give up... i plunged more and more with the mop
i was like a madman - not surprised the neighbours didn't call the police :)

then i noticed bits of string
where the **** did that come from???
then i realised that the mop string was coming off!!!!!!!!!
aaaah!!! that's the last thing i want! mop string stuck down there
i don't think much went down there

i've realised now that the water has been over flowing for a LOONG time
i really should have fixed a looong time ago!

odd thing with the mop: i plunged and plunged - water goes down
BUT, when i plull back up - MORE water fills the drain!!

i don't know what my next step should be?

should i still try to solve myself by investing in a drain kit?
or should i buy the pressure water attachement??
this costs about £60 + i'll have to borrow a pressure washer
(hoping that the attachment thing is universal!)

need help!!!
my garden will be filled with sewage water otherwise!

thanks!

About 3 or 4 weeks ago , my daughter phoned me up asking if I had any drain rods as her drain was blocked. (I do have some so called round on the Saturday) Rodded her drains ,from a manhole in her back garden for about 20 minutes and nothing was going anywhere. Followed the route of the drain across 3 neighbours gardens and found another manhole. Asked this neighbour if I could have a look. Lifted this manhole (where the drains now go into the main sewer. Bingo !!!! big blockage in this manhole. A few minutes with the rods and the drains were flowing easily again.

Your drains may well be fine and there could be a manhole further along the drainage system that's blocked ;) ;) ;) ;)

john, can u come round my place. tomorrow at 9.30am should be fine
thanks
lol
:) :) :)

hmm... see... that just makes it worse now!
i was thinking of buying one of those reverse pressure hosepipe things
on ebay, i can buy for £50 - £60
i thought, rather than call someone out and pay them £100 - £200 (i've no idea how much it will cost)... i might as well invest in one of these

but now... what u've said changes everything!!

u say u had a rod set?
were they something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12PC-DRAIN-ROD-SET-UNBLOCKER-9M-DRAINS-RODS-SEWAGE-/280524839936

dumb question: do the rods go down the pipes?
someone in an earlier post said that they couldn't bend round 45 degrees or something?

let me know

thanks

whatever happens: i realise (several weeks later) that the problem needs to be fixed ASAP[/b]
