Radiators not getting warm.

I'm experiencing a problem with my radiators. I've tried bleeding them and no air is in them and only cold water is coming through.

I can confirm that my boiler is working because my hot water works. I've checked the boiler and the pilot appears to be lit.

However, when switch the heating on, the hum which I normal hear as well as the noise ofte pipes doesn't occur.

My boiler is a glow worm hide away 50b and I have a Honeywell controller. The controller appears to be working fine. We just aren't getting any hum, pipes creaking or heating in the radiators.

So, where do I start in trouble shooting this? Could it be a fuse or something? Maybe a pump of some type?

Depending on the system you have I'd be looking at the pump (if hot water is gravity circulated) or motorised valve if the system is fully pumped.

I taught it might be a pump. Where might this pump be located? Is this something more suited for a gas/heating expert or a plumber?

My boiler is located on the bottom floor. My ht water tank is located on the first floor.

Is the boiler firing when CH is on, even for a short time? If not, then chances are it's the motorised valve or microswitch in the valve. Or could be a faulty room stat if you have one.

So, if we think it ate pump, I now need to try to find the pump. Some of the diagrams in the boiler manual are starting to make sense. Here are some images of the inside of the boiler. It looks like the pump is fiitted somewhere outside the boiler. It doesn't appear to be near the boiler, so where else might it be. The pipe that should be feeding the house run up the wall into the next floor. Could it be near the tank or even in the loft?

If I understand you correctly, no the boiler isn't firing when I switch n the heating, but it does when I do the hot water. As far as I'm aware, I don't have a thermostat. We just switch on the heating and hotwatter via the Honeywell controller.

Is the valve something located on the pump or the boiler? Bit of a newb, but eager to learn. Just trying to figure out where the problem is and the decide if its something I might be able to fix Myself.

At the same time, I'm trying to figure out if I have a gravity fed or fully pumped system. My ch has never worked unless I switch on the hot water.

Furthermore, the upstairs radiators will get hot if the hot water is on regardless if ch is on or off. This has always been the case and we just thought it was something dodgy about the setup.

That boiler has clearly not seen a service in many a year. My advice would be that it is time to spend some money. Get in a registered gas engineer, get the boiler serviced and they should be able to find your pump, motorised valves etc and diagnose and fix the problems you have with the heating.

Your right, ill get that sorted. However, from what you guys are saying it may not be the boiler and I would like to try to do any work myself if possible before calling an engineer out.

I've been trying to locate the pump and valve. Took the following photos of where the tank is. I don't see a pump or valve anywhere in there, even under the cover. Is it possible it will be in the loft?

Do I have a gravity or fully pumped system?

How many pipes do you have going to/from the boiler excluding the gas pipe? if its four, then its likely its gravity hot water. Only two then probably fully pumped. The pump for the heating is likely to be down by the boiler somewhere maybe tucked down the side.

I have 2 pipes at the top right and 2 on the bottom. I'm still yet to locate the pump though.

The pipes go out into a corner of the kitchen and then up a boarded column.

I called a plumber out today as it appears to be an issue with the pump. However, he had trouble locating the pump. He reckoned it was under the floor boards on the landing. So I had a look and found this. Is this a pump?

It has three wires going into it and it sits on a piece of wood which runs diagonally. Could there be a pipe in side it?

Yeah, he didn't have time to lift carpets up tonight as it was a late call out. He had a look everywhere I did and was puzzled as well.

Does this look like a pump?
