If you live in the Bristol area I would suggest going to the lake at the bottom of my road and spending some time with the anglers, my mate across the road is on the committee so if you are interested give me a nudge and I'll introduce you, or send me pound notes if you prefer..

Thanks Pred... there are a few large waterways around here.... think I might google fishing clubs in my area...

Any thoughts on what kit to buy?

Yes! As a matter of fact I can recommend a large umbrella, a sou'wester oilskin, wellies, a waterproof bivouac and a large primus stove to start with.

Once ye've bought yer tackle , bait, licences etc. Before ye gaun fishin, call at the offie and get the requisite cans/bottles o beer. When you get to the river/canal/lake, bank, stick these in yer landing net and place it in the water to cool them down. Once you've managed to set yer tackle up and put bait on yer hook. Cast it in and have a beer. Try counting how many beers you have before ye catch anything. It's great. (specially when you forget to put the bait on. )
