eReader suggestions

Has anyone got any suggestions other than the obvious kindle route. Note I only want an eReader, I most definitely don't want it to do anything else, no cameras, apps, email, flim flam etc.

I've got a Kobo Touch that I quite like. Haven't really used it that much though as I tend to pick up secondhand books at car boots etc. I bought it because unlike some of the others it's not tied in to a particular store or format. Reads PDFs too. To be fair I haven't tried the others though.

The other half has a Kobo glo.

If you read at night a lit screen is a must (especially for the non reader not having to put up with a bedside light!).

It also has a micro SD card slot, so you can load up as many books as you'd ever need.

As mentioned by Dave54, this make can use most formats, so 'free' ebooks ( ) are easy to come by...

Although if you download the free Calibre program, you can convert between any formats easily.

The one downside found so far is that the layout of it's 'bookshelves' isn't that straightforward.

Well I was delighted to recieve a kindle for xmas from by better half. It does exactly what I want... its an e-reader pure and simple no apps so the kids wont interfere. One simple fumction that it performs well. Easy to use and a huge range of e books available. :D

And what did Diane get you?

I have been using a kindle for a couple of years now without any problems - the black & white version. Having said that, I still prefer an actual book.

I agree in many respects I like the tactility and smell of real books, but e-readers are excellent when travelling. I do a LOT of travelling. (Seldom anything exotic I hasten to add!!)

I think they are great for finding unusual or non-commercial books such as 'The ragged trousered philanthropist' (previously mentioned on this forum) which I am reading at the moment. I would never have gone into a book shop and bought it. The e-readers allow you to try some of the books that are outside your normal comfort zone.

You can download a sample and hif you don't never get into it, you 'avn't never lorst nothing.
