Hi

I have 2 top guided window that has a central mushroom that's hitting the frame, one significantly worse than the other.

What can I do to stop this happening?

Pictures of the the better of the two windows shown, i curently have a sleeping child in the room with the worse window.

I cant quite tell if this is a top hung or side hung window from your pics.

It is possible that the frame/sash has just bowed a bit from thermal expansion and contraction.

If you have a long straight edge or piece of string you can use it to see if the transom or sash has bowed. Assuming this is the problem, Once you know which is bowed you could tap it back a bit with a soft hammer or mallet.

Its a top hung window, and I can imagine its been bowed. I'll get a spirit level out and check. Thanks.

It is probably where're it has been used over the years, when you pull it in you are pulling it down(if the mushroom is in the middle of the sash) get the back of a hammer and pull the window to and force the sash up, it may be where the sash is pulling away from the glass

Try losening the hinge screws screws in frame and window get someone to push up on the window as you retighten it may well sort it out.
