I have a Mira Excel shower mixer. This is feed by a Worcester Combi boiler and there is no tank or gravity feed system involved.

For the past few weeks, when using the shower, the flow is slower than usual but will then speed up and then slow down again. Each change isn't sudden but gradual.

The boiler was serviced recently and was declared to be working fine so it doesn't appear to be boiler related. When I mentioned it to the gas man at the time, he suggested it may be the washers needing replaced in the shower.

I'm now thinking it could be an airlock in the feed to the shower as over the past week, there has been a noise occasionally when using the shower.

How do you clear an airlock from a mixer shower? Could the airlock have been caused by degrading washers? Is it straightforward to replace the washers on this shower?

Thanks.

How old is your mixer? Only reason I ask is because I have just replaced the cartridge in my Excel mixer and it works a treat now. Much easier than trying to replace seals and 'O' rings in my opinion (and I have done that before as well)

Mine was 20 yrs old, original cartridge that was letting by and stiff to operate. Replacing was easy - control knob off, 4 screws, out with the old and in with the new. Ok, not cheap but after 20 yrs I couldn't complain.

To be honest, I don't know. I have the washers already. It operates fine in as much as it turns on and off smoothly and isn't stiff.
