Does 1 inch OD pipe accept 25mm fittings?

As the title says my garage is supplied with 1 inch mdpe pipe. This is the outside diameter which I have measured with a set of calipers. I can't find any reference to pipe with a one inch outside diameter and wonder if standard 25mm push fittings will work with it or if the extra 0.4mm will cause problems.

Also do you know if it possible to get a reducing tee for 25mm fittings? I want to add a 15mm branch and could reduce after the tee but it would be cleaner to use a reducing tee.

is it black pipe? When plastic pipes first emerged in the UK, they were in imperial measurements, then moved to metric.

You can still get fittings, especially a 1-inch to 15mm stopcock (I have one, and not long ago got a spare). A local plumbers merchant will have one especially if, like me, you are in an area where a lot of houses were built around the time it was popular. I doubt a DIY shed would shift many.

Get Philmac kit, it seems to be more easily adaptable to slightly odd sizes than some of the others. You can get a tee with a female threaded branch, into which you can insert an appropriate adapter for your 15mm copper

Thanks for your replies. The pipe is the normal blue colour the same as the ones you can buy in the sheds.

I'll need to find a time to get to a plumbers merchant as I can't find any online at the moment.

A Philmac tee (part 98933300) with a 25 to 15mm copper connection kit (part 99603200) will do the trick.

That's just standard 25mm pipe then, not 1" OD

As muggles mentions, chances are if it's blue it is 25mm. As you say, the difference is so small that it could easily be sized as 1". A normal 25mm reducing T should fit OK.

Thanks for all your help. I headed to a shed with the callipers and guess what... Their pipes measure the same so it is just standard 25mm pipe.
