laptop choice

I will appreciate if my 18 year old can get help to choose one from the two laptops or recommend
one another within the budget kindly note he is not in gaming so it will b uni student use with movies
connecting via HDMI cable
1.HP pavilion 15-p 144na √ amd8 -6410 quad core (2ghz-4mbl2 cache & and turbo upto 2.4ghz
2.asusx550cc-x10016h√ Intel i5-3337u dual core (1.8ghz-3mb cache & turbo upto 2.7 GHz
his priority is multitask processing speed on hard disk one is 1000gb and another 750 GB
Asus is £400 and HP is £350

i use a hp pavillion g series i5 2.6 ghz,had it now for about 4 years,battery lasts about 1 hour now.been a good lappy so far.does everything i need it too.

Go to a store and check them out in the flesh. Some look great on paper but are poorly made. Physical ruggedness is important for a lappy.
 
Sometimes it's worth going back to basics before you check the spec too much, the Asus looks like it has a separate numeric keypad while the HP doesn't. My wife is doing a degree in environmental science and when I chose a laptop for her I asked her to put down a list of requirements in priority order and one of the main ones was the separate numerical keypad.

If there is a lot of maths in the uni work it's probably more useful the an extra 250GB of HDD space
 
I can only speak from personal experience; within my family we've (my parents and I) each had an HP laptop, and all three (all different HP models, made in different years) have failed at between 18 months to around 3 years old due to inadequate cooling causing the main board to be written off.
 
Not a laptop, of course, but as we're discussing the reliability of HP products, has anyone any experience of the HP LaserJet Pro M252dw colour laser printer?
 
I've always found Dell to be pretty good, though some of the newer models have small batteries.

Ideally you want one with a solid state drive rather a conventional drive. but either way avoid anything with a 5k rpm drive as while they are large, they are very slow.
