Do you really think the UN vote was about Brexit?

The issue was we paid for the land, the money didn't go to the people living there, so they were evicted. That was wrong. I suspect in the 1960s I could have bought Canary Wharf for a lot less than £3M, I very much doubt I could by half of it for £300M now.

I haven't read the link, or researched the subject.
But from my own understanding,
a) The UK allowed Mauritius to have independence, in exchange for the islands. It made the islands a British Overseas territory. No compensation went to the islanders when they were evicted from the islands. They were simply transported to Mauritius and left to fend for themselves.
b) They want to remain a British Overseas Territory. They do not want Mauritius to have sovereignty over them.
c) The islanders simply want the right to return and live on their home land.
d) The dispute is between Mauritius and UK, not between the islanders and anyone else.
e) There is no suggestion that Mauritius would allow the islanders to return to their island.

I will support any democracy to remain part of the UK or under our wing. If they want out then we should let them do as they wish

With the way this is reported in the press, you'd be forgiven for thinking they were next door to Mauritius.. I just measured it on Navionics 2,200Km away.

I wonder if Mauritius will be asked to pay a divorce bill? After all they sold them in the 60s and were paid in full.

Oh look - a quitling who doesn't think there could be anything worrying about the fact that the UK's global influence, presence, standing, significance has declined to the point where only 5 countries support it on a matter of international rules and law.
