Nearly beaten by a pop-up travel cot!

Regular babysitting duties start tomorrow as our sons partner goes back to work part-time. We've got little Henry on Thursdays. Wifey sent me out to get a travel cot/playpen to slip him into for his afternoon nap. 45 years as a mechanic and it took me 20 minutes to put it up! That’s 19 minutes of struggling, then 45 seconds of reading the instruction sheet and 15 seconds to follow them. I was on the point of returning it. :LOL:

I feel emasculated having to read the instructions - it felt akin to asking for help from ellal. :rolleyes:

Susie likes it. Must take her out when Henry arrives!

Yep, there's only one way of getting those blasted things to stay upright and one way to get it down too, gotta get the sequence right.
 
Don't worry your not on your own! I was in the process of returning one we had got for our great granddaughter, having tried for ages to assemble it, I convinced myself it was a gone wrong Chinese puzzle, and yet the granddaughter read the assembly instructions and after five minuets maximum she had it done with the base and mattress in, sometimes I think we underestimate the girls,

Yes, with the one above, I couldn’t get the short end bars to lock in position. Also couldn’t release the long bars. Mucked about with it then got those locked but couldn’t lock the sides and couldn’t unlock the ends. I was pushing and pulling, sweating and swearing and got as far as reserving another one from Argos as I was going to take this one back, convinced it was faulty. I then read the instructions and you must lock the side and end bars before snapping the bottom panel into place. You do the reverse when folding it up. It’s got to be a safety feature to prevent the toddler from releasing them when they are in it. Basically, the child proofing confused the hell out of me.
 
Similarly, after many years of using one of those beach tent that you throw in the air and they open, i fold it flat, but i've never managed to get it to a 300mm disc as per instructions.
Mine folds to a 5 foot odd shape :cautious:
 
On mine the tag that releases the locks on the bottom, when you pull up had broken, and i spent ages & ages trying to collapse, before turning it over and removing some of the material to see how the Mech worked. We had to use a screwdriver to release the mech on one side. All this at a hotel on checkout!!! , looking after our grand daughter. So beware incase its a common fault on those type of cots , added loads of stess

We also had the beach tent type for our children, and after many a fight , found that a certain twist made thing fold in on itself and go back to the small size. Wife worked it out not me
 
We bought one online and I didn't manage to build it up. I contacted the retailer (a pain) and said it's faulty and wanted a refund. They insisted on us taking a video trying to assemble it...
As I got off the phone, the Mrs had read the instructions and had assembled it...
 
My experience of women with these cots is the exact opposite. My wife and daughter always leave them to me when the granddaughter stays, and as I work for CP I was always being called to the lodges by the cleaners to dismantle them. (My wife says they probably could do it but just wanted to see my cheery face. LOL)
