Hi all,

This sensor is in the garage and I’d love to know what it’s function is, we’ve just had a new heating system, converting to a Vaillant system store Combi from an open vented tanked system, the old wiring centre had communication with a frost stat but not this (directly anyway..).

Please can anyone advise?

Thanks

Very strange

The top unit is a almost certainly a power supply

but MSA diffusion are manufacturers of gas detection equipment.

If the lower unit is also MSA Difussion then maybe the lower unit is a gas detection module checking for exhaust fumes / petrol leaks in the garage.

Or maybe the lower unit is a 12 volt lamp and someone replaced the original ( failed ) power supply with T7C 521 power supply.

It looks like the typical electronic transformer (switched mode power supply) used to power quartz halogen lamps, likely 3 x 50 watt, with some trunking below it.

That is brilliant information, I believe that this is linked to 3 Halogen lamps in the conservatory, many thanks and much appreciated!

Again, another great informative response, thank you so much.

There is a conservatory on the other side of the garage that has 3 halogen down lights, I’m thinking that this has been positioned remotely for maintenance access, it’s confusing though as I’d always thought it was some form of detection module, that has now changed.
Thank you Bernard

The top unit is the transformer/PSU and the bottom bit is trunking, you will likely find (upon removing the lid) that there is a hole through the wall where the cables go to the other side of it.
Although that's puzzling as sparkies usually chuck them up in the ceiling.

Thanks Matt, you are absolutely spot on, it is for 3 halogen conservatory down lights, the wiring goes live when the lighting in there is switched on, the trunking is as you described too, the puzzling thing is the height of the unit, it is much lower than the conservatory ceiling down lighting behind the pictured wall.
A thoughtful electrician who thought ahead I guess.
