My son wants to build a gaming computer

couple of things,

if he builds it it is a learning curve, sometimes they can work out better, or of similar price but with the added satisfaction that he built it himself (maybe with some help from you) it is really simple to build PC's , everything is plug in, the hardest part is routing the cables nice and neatly and organising the fans so you get really good air flow.

by building it he will hold the machine with higher personal value and will likely take much better care of it and have it for longer, which is only a good thing for children.

also dont trust the app to spec the PC, its not ideal and is aimed at people who don't have a clue.

for graphics card i highly recomend the Radeon 5700XT as a well priced top of the range card which will play everything he wants for a couple of years very well. its not quite as good as the best NVIDIA but the cost saving is worthwhile, this can also be upgraded at a later date.

there is some motherboard deals out there where you get a free SSD drive and stuff.

Attached is what i found, all components are same or equal to (in some cases better,). in terms of speed and quality etc

I would also advise going for the X570 range of motherboards, these are AMD's fastest mother boards, and they are also the most future proofed, meaning that in the future all you / your boy has to do is upgrade components as it suits rather than a whole new PC.

the X570 motherboard should be good for at least 3-5 years which is a life time in electronic terms.

Might also want to add a wifi card, unless ethernet cable is going to be used.

Covers a lot of different aspects - good presenter - bit of a 'rasbarian' - very professional vids.

I am no expert but consider buying the fastest kit I am prepared to spend on... Future proofing to some extent.

If he is gaming, forget the use of WIFI, go hard wired ethernet only.
I'd up the CPU the to a ryzen5 3600 (not the X) also look for an EVGA 500w psu.
The video card should cope and can always be upgraded should the need arise.
More RAM would be a benefit, also dont forget the cost of the OS.
If you can make the NVME?SSD 1TB it would be bale to store more games on and once you start using Steam then your library tends to get quite big, games are about 50gb+ a pop these days.

Ryzen 5 3400G Bundle

My only thought is and i might be willing, but the G in 3400G means graphics, but as using a gpu, there might be a better cpu for same price? Not sure though.

I would buy intel suffix 'K' CPU (10% faster than non 'K' types out of the box - with overclock if required) also spec onboard graphics - backs up the use of graphics card, good aid to problem solving possible graphics card problems and keeps the mc useable in the event.
