Stainless Handrail Levelling

presumably the bottom flanges are just covers? and some kind of fixing is under there?

If it isn't adjustable underneath them, could you pack the lower rail supports with stainless washers?
Lifting some of the rail?

Or remove one of the higher posts if possible and grind a bit of the paving away?
((risk of cracks)

What make are they? manufacturer's advice?

Thanks for your reply.

They're these ones: https://www.handrailsdirectcomponents.co.uk/item/1228/handrailsdirect/Intermediate-Post.html

They are just covers at the bottom, but there's very little movement in them to add packing underneath the post to raise it.

I'd rather not grind away at the slate if possible. That's a can of worms I'd rather not open :D

I could 3D print some packers to go between the lowest saddle and the handrail, I guess.

I've contacted the manufacturer, and am awaiting their reply.

so looking at the picture zoomed in.
What do the cable ties on the handrail do?

Are there bolts that go upwards into the handrail?
Would just adjusting the handrail be ok?

The glass support might be able to be adjusted?

If just the handrail then a small stainless spacers and longer screws/bolts could act as spacers?
I'd try for stainless rod with a hole rather than simply tube for strength.

Or get slabs of stainless made (you can DIY) that match the shape/size of the part that joins the rail.
Stainless is hard so the rod is easier as DIY or find a mate with a mill

Thanks again for your reply.

The cable ties are just there to hold the handrail on, as it is currently just set up to test. When happy, you drill through the saddle into the handrail and bang a couple of self tappers in.

The glass supports cannot be adjusted, but the glass can be put in them level, so that's not an issue.

I do think some spacers between the saddle and the handrail are the answer, just need to fabricate them myself.

I'm amazed they don't make something like this, for this exact reason. Or that the thin pole just under the saddle is screwed in, to allow for adjustment.

Kind Regards,

Carl...

So just to clarify, in hindsight you should have ordered to the two taller ones slightly shorter yes?

If only. They're a standard size, 1.1M. In hindsight, my builder wouldn't have been such an idiot, and put the fall going from back to front, leaving a much less noticable slant on the rail on the left of the platform.

Hmm, anyway, I thought you can (or a S/S welder) can cut out a section, re-weld it and grind it down so the join is invisible?

As it happens I’m going through the process of drawing up a whole load of glass balustrades for a commercial job atm, every one is made to measure. Respectfully if you’re gonna use standard off the peg stuff and aren’t prepared to pay for anything bespoke then the landscaping has to be adjust to suit the handrails.

Unfortunately, I think you're right.

are they actually welded now? it looks like some of their stuff is glued together?
if so, would it be possible to undo the bottom glue and cut a few mm off before re-gluing?
suggesting the bottom for appearances sake

They're definitely welded into the bottom fixing plate...
