On the radio this morning

The thousands that turn up
And take a slash in the open are contaminating the land

in particular high levels of cocaine have been identified which gets into the water course and is having an effect on fish etc in particular some species of eel

they sort of get bombed out of there heads

appealing to
People to use the designated toilets

How can you appeal to the sort of person who deliberately mentally incapacitates himself?

There is very little equivalence in beer/wine/spirits drinking and the taking of illegal drugs. Most people who drink do not do so to become incapacitated; I certainly don't. With illegal drugs it is the only reason, plus you are deliberately breaking the law, so you are all at once the sort of person who breaks laws and deliberately mentally incapacitates himself - therefore doubly inconsiderate. There are people who drink themselves into a stupor equivalent to a drug stupor, but they are the minority and they are not breaking the law in doing so. Cheers, mine's a large one.

It's fair to say that far more people die from alcohol than illegal drugs.

With respect FB that comment is miles out of context. More people die from alcohol than illegal drugs because more people drink alcoholic drinks than take illegal drugs!

But how many people die from drugs because the proscription of the drugs and the criminalisation of the possession and supply leads to adulterated products, products of unknown potency, lack of access to advice, lack of access to safe environments to take drugs, prices which drive users to crime ...

People can take what they like IMO

the point is they are causing issues with the eels by slashing in the open

So, so wrong in every clause.

"How many people die from drugs because the proscription of the drugs"... said drugs are against the law. It's their own fault for deliberately breaking the law. It's also the fault of the police / courts / prisons for not enforcing the drug laws. All the dead druggers would be still alive had they been arrested and punished properly.

"Criminalisation"... biggest nonsense of the lot. When you deliberately break a law, it is of entirely your own agency. Adding -isation implies that someone or something made you do it. It is dishonesty and euphemism.

"Lack of access to advice, lack of access to safe environments to take drugs"... Deliberate criminal activity and lack of law enforcement is the problem.

"Prices which drive users to crime"... Criminals are responsible for crimes, not prices.

Transam think about what you are saying please:

You said "People can take whatever they like". So, let's say they take LSD and don't know what day it is, who they are, where they are or what they are, if their bladder is full or even what a bladder is.

Following on from this you say "The point is they are causing issues with the eels by slashing in the open". Do you expect a person who has in effect medically shut his brain down for a few hours to be able to urinate in a particular place at a particular time and to care about the consequences to wildlife? You might as well expect a person in a coma to walk a tightrope.

Are those known effects of LSD? Do you have any evidence to show that they are?

Is there a scientific, medical, definition of brain "shut down" you are referring to? Does it have degrees or is it all or nothing? Which drugs induce it, and do they all do so to the same extent? Can you provide links to the studies of it that you are relying on?

No - correct in every one.

No matter how much you espouse your position of complete intolerance, primitive retribution, and lack of understanding, it will never change the reality you so wish did not apply, any more than your signature will make Covid a hoax or Trump the winner of the 2020 US presidential election.

And BTW - "criminalisation" is what the authorities do when they make something a crime.
nothing wrong with drug use, its drug abuse that is the killer.

In 2019, nearly 50,000 people in the United States died from opioid-involved overdoses. The misuse of and addiction to opioids—including prescription pain relievers, heroin, and synthetic opioids such as fentanyl—is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare

Drugs really can damage your health.
