Grounding come loose

Hi, I went to use my stop cock today (which I discovered has seized ) and noticed what I assume is a grounding cable fitted a little above it which appears to have become disconnected - see the picture.

Is it as simple as screwing the cable end back under the screw? I just want to check before I attempt to do anything. Also, do I need to turn off my electrics before I do this, if it can be done myself. TIA

Yes, but strip off more insulation and make a 'U' so that the cable goes around the screw both sides.

Yes, switch off to be safe just in case.

There should be a washer between the screwhead or nut and the cable, to prevent it being dislodged when tightening.

Tab washers are best if you can find one

I think there is a washer there, looked to be when I was checking it out. A bit harder to tell from the photo.

The slightly concerning thing is I’ve no idea how long it’s been out - we’ve been in the house for two years and for all I know it was out before we moved in. I’d seen the stop cock but never had cause to actually go near it until today!

if your plumbing is copper pipe, there will be multiple paths, via boiler, immersion heater etc

better still if you have metal pipe going into the ground, if it is all electrically continuous.
