It is an interesting question, though, as to why this particular conflict gets so much attention. I think the anti-Semitism argument is sad, twisted logic. But what are the real reasons. Is it because Gaza is such a small enclosed area with nowhere for the population to escape to. Is it the sight of the world's most high tech armed forces bombing unarmed civilians back to the stone age. My gut feeling is that it is most likely a combination of these factors and more.

Indeed. Maybe the British press feel somewhat responsible, seeing that it was British policy to divide up the land in the fisrt place. But then it was a US policy to resettle so many Jews in Israel, and push the idea that it is God's will that the whole region is for Jews only.

Israel was seen as being more "western" due to trade, language, general colour of skin, so there is that too.

But ulitmaltaely, they have been using the reason for so many Jews being there, the Holocaust, and the fact that so many Jew-haters deny the Holocaust even happen, to then almost freely commit their own crimes against humanity.

It is only during this most recent war that the world is starting to see how bad he Israel government is, and it is only because of social media and the fact that we can now see what they are doing - although they and their supporters still deny it.

So, things will change. But the chance of long-term peace has probably been set back another 50 years.

Regime change is probably the only long-term hope for Israel - get Benjamin Netanyahu out and replace with somebody who actually respects Palestinians. If you are going to deny an ancient nation its freedom and claim them and their land as your own, then you need to bloody well treat them with respect and look after them, not cage them, burn their homes and continue to take their lives and cultures away from them.

But ... This reminded me of this video from years ago. While Jewish settlers believe that they have the right to kick Palestinians out, there is no hope.

Older Palestinians in Gaza, in 2006. A population that makes up around 15% of the population of gaza. After all no one under the age of around 36 has been able to vote.

Going with Race as the main identifier is pretty stupid interpretation. Then again that's the only way to justify the collective reprisals Israel is rolling out.

During the Ottoman Empire, Palestine had a large population that consisted of muslims of Arab origin, Christians and Jews. The each were allowed to run their own churches and communities. As already mentioned, Palestine as a region has been inhabited by Palestinians for at least 14,000 years (genetic and archeolgy supports this).

Since a group of Jewish settlers were "given" some land to call home in the late 1800s (formalised first in 1917, then strengthened in 1946) this relative harmony has been destroyed by Zionist apartheid. The current situation is a direct result of Israel decided to take all the land for itself, and forcibly, with tanks and bulldozers, squeezing the ancient, native population into ever smaller areas.

They need to stop. Apologise. And aid the rebuildingof Palestine. Anything less will result in an eternity of war and hate. Unfortunately, Isreal seems to beleive that an alternative solution is possible - remove all Palestinians completely, or at least, effectvely imprison them. But this will just give rise to more rebels who will fight back, and they will fight back in the same way Isreal has been treating Palestinians for decade - capturing, kidnapping, torturing, killing without mercy.

And so it goes.
