Help needed with wall

Hi I'm trying to put a shelf up. One side of the wall crumbled. It's like thin layers of the wall on top just came off. This stuff underneath is dry. Some of it it a little bouncy when pushing it. Like I could rip more out. I have limited DIY skills and even more limited money. Is there a quick easy fix to repair this just to get my shelf up? I realise I probably need to replace the whole section with plastering and stuff but for now I just need somethkng easy and neat. Maybe that squashy filler stuff you can smooth over and let dry? I really don't know.

Dig out if it's loose back to brick.
Just that small area or you will have to keep going which you really don't want to do.
Problem is when you start those jobs you need to understand that plaster is coming away and nothing you can do. So best go steady and just do that spot. When filled will firm up the surrounding area.
Vacuum wall.
Brush water on.
Limelite renovating plaster from Travis Perkins.
Buy a box of toupret powder filler for going over the top.
120 grade sand and paint.

If you really want a cheap job just hit that area with lightweight ready-mixed filler and paint over, but that's going to be a bodge.

If its a quick fix you want just drill a small hole knock some wood in there like a bit of dowl rod and drill a few shallow spots in the rest of the area then put some filler on the rest of the patch and smooth it over and make sure when you drill the screw for the shelf it goes into the wood, but you may need to check how bad the problem is so you may need to do a bit of work in future to do the wall properly.
