Watching QT earlier this week.

Lisa Nandy, Billy Bragg and Richard Tice were on the panel.

They were discussing Reform and the chances of Farage becoming PM.

Billy had been quite level headed and reserved during the prog, however he started to become more animated and louder at one point. He asserted to Tice along these lines:

Let me tell you, once Andy Burnham's in, Farage will be STUFFED!

It was then almost as if he thought oh sh1t what have I said, kind of letting the cat out the bag sort of thing, as he then went on to say in a somewhat quieter voice:

Sorry Lisa

Nandy is known to be good friends with Burnham. Got me thinking, although we're being told of the barriers Starmer can put in Burnham's way, I wonder if the consensus in the party and by those close to it is 'he's toast!'

Do you reckon he can weather the current storm, or is he very much on borrowed time? A case of not if but when?

I've said for a while I doubt he'll survive the Autumn budget, if by chance he does, the local elections next year will finish him off. Burnham does look a likely successor. I quite like Burnham, whether or not he'd be any better than Starmer, don't know.

He's not out but will be lose heavily with the current poll rating. The question is whether his successors want to chuck him out now, and risk a similar defeat, or wait. Usually they wait, but why would Burnam want to lead on a lame duck party in opposition (apart form personal ambition). Plus he has to get a seat and Starmy controls the NEC who appoint candidates. So the strategy seems to be to be death by a thousand cuts, and review the position as things progress, especially after the 2026 and 2027 locals. Andy wants to become leader but its difficult to see how his radical labor politics would be any different, and he cant do it on personality alone.

Exactly, he needs a safe seat which stammer would be mad to give him. Even if he gets one at least 80 MPs have to back him. But developing a base gives him influence and as Mao said, every long journey starts with the first step
