Couldn’t find a recent thread but Bad Enoch’s speech struck me as the longest Sui cide note in history after Kinnoch’s in 87. The only new thing was the promise to end stamp duty. That might buy her some time as leader but it will hardly prevent them from being all but wiped out at the next election as the polls stand. Borris deselected the moderates or drove them out of the party and has been left with a bunch of hapless Re form clones, more of whom must be planning to jump ship.

Boris has to be held responsible for the Tory party position right now.

And some still want him back

5 Prime Ministers in 8 years

Brexit destroyed the Conservatives.

Forget it. Just one half of the Tory/Labour uniparty. Promise the world and do feck all - except the opposite of what everyone wanted. What's the point of listening to someone when it's all lies and false promises that will be forgotten. Politicians = traitors.

Don't be taken in. (n)
How would you like the country to be run if not by a government?

The next election will be Reform vs Lib Dems.

Don't just look at one poll, look at the direction of travel. Labour and tories have lost all trust with the public, people want to try absolutely anything other than them, and I include myself.. Every poll, Reform are 1 or 2% higher, along with Lib Dems, while Labour and Tory just keep falling.

The tiny but noisy minority of rampant loony lefties are leaving Labour for the Green party, who are at last starting to get honest about the fact that they're communists hiding behind the eco disguise.

The polls aren't yet showing the effect of the digital ID announcement, which has been another nail in Starmer's coffin. Then the budget, then the May 2026 elections, it's only going to get worse for them.

TBH none of the conferences gave me hope of a brighter future
It's generally accepted they have little to no +/- influence on voting intentions and patterns.

The party faithful (or not so faithful) sitting their clapping at someone spouting promise after promise, the high majority of which will only be partially delivered if at all.

I've said it before myself, including on here, and James Cleverly said it on a news prog the other day. Here's what he said (not exact quote but gives you the idea):

Our political system is basically a party gaining power, making certain promises, staying in power for x years getting some things right some things wrong. The other parties point out the wrong stuff in opposition. Then one of them gets voted in next time around. They then make promises, staying in power for x years getting some things right some things wrong. The other parties point out the wrong stuff in opposition. Then one of them gets voted in next time around ...

I'm not sure what the solution is, however the current system is sh1te. And it means things that require a cohesive long term and stable strategy e.g. around health, travel, energy, immigration etc get chopped and changed with each new administration.

The Greens essentially want to abolish private landlord ownership, so they'll never get my vote.

the direction of government policy seems to be a mixture of

a) what they think the public will vote for

b) trying to get back polling from opposition

c) what the party donors and lobbyists want

None of which is actually what the country needs.
