I was making some tea and toast in the kitchen. I noticed the toaster wasn't working.

I had previously emptied the bread crum tray this morning. So I began to fiddle with the toaster stupidly (whilst plugged in ).

I got a mild electric shock.

The toaster outlet is not walking and neither is the outlets downstream of the toaster outlet.

I checked the circuit breaker and nothing has tripped?

All downstairs sockets (including the kitchen) are on the same circuit and effected by the same circuit breaker.

All other downstairs socket are work apart from the kitchen toaster socket and the sockets that come after it.

I don't know a lot about electric but have tried to be as detailed as I can.

1. I won't be able to get it sorted this weekend. How can I make it safe ?

I need the fridge e.t.c. to have power so it's not really a greak option to trip the downstairs socket circuit and completely cut the power. Unless absolutely nessesary as keeping it on is really dangerous.

2. What has happened?

I'm assuming the toaster innocent did something to socket in the wall and broke the circuit?

I'm just assuming,

Post a pic of the consumer unit, has an rcd tripped and you haven't noticed maybe?

Or is there an enclosure with a separate mcb thats tripped maybe?

Unlikely

Maybe those sockets are on a SPUR with a FUSED connection unit and the FUSE in that has gone
How do you know what sockets come after
is this part of a cooker switch maybe cooker circuit

Any fused connection units ????

No mate no sockets like that.

ok, so no trips shown on CU

How do you know what sockets come after
which sockets do not work
maybe photos of those - anything else on the other sockets that are NOT working
I assume the toaster is unplugged from the socket now

is the fridge socket NOT working , or only concerned if turned MCB OFF

Is there no other fuses near the consumer unit?

Can you plug the freezer somewhere else for tonight, then check behind the socket in the morning? Maybe something has happened there.

So the sockets circled green are working. The one on the first picture circled red is what the toaster was plugging it

That socket is not working.

Second picture the toaster socket circled red on the left isn't working neither are the three sockets that come after it.

Sent pictures of the kitchen and sockets not working.

I'll take a picture of the consumer unit somed out now

Odd, as I would have expected the rcd or mcb to activate. What did you plug into the sockets to test? Please don’t say the toaster :D . The washing machine - is this activated by an additional switch like that mentioned above by @ETAF?

unlikely - BUT is there another small consumer unit in the kitchen at all
none of those Fused connection unit - under worktop or in cupboards at all

as pete01 says

I cant see why if all you did was fiddle with the toaster - BUT maybe coincedance or somethign happened when pulled the plug out ..

Yeah I got a shock from the toaster.

then should have tripped -
maybe the RCD has tripped and not showing as off
you have 2 RCDs with a SOCKETS shown on the label

is the shower working
just wonder if the RCD tripped BUT not shown as off on switch - not experienced that - so no idea if possible , but i know other switches can do that

@Stuckinarut , that was me , i asked if possibly static

No the other sockets were working.. when I was trying to make toast I was boiling the kettle downstream of that socket.

I had just emptied the bread crumb tray before attempting to make toast. The toaster wasn't working, stupidly without thinking, I started messing about with toe toaster.

Adjusted the breadcrumbs tray, pulled down the leaver, the stick my hand next to the heating element (don't know why I did it , my mind was somewhere else).

I must have touched the metal inside the toaster, toasting compartment. I got a shock, the kettle on a different wall socket stopped boiling, also the sockets next it stopped working (Fridge)
